Change of Heart

My six year old was fussing because I wouldn't allow him to have skittles for breakfast. More whining and fussing came, so I told him, "Kyle, you need to change your heart and stop fussing."

Kyle's response, "Mom, you need to change YOUR heart and let me have skittles!"

How do you respond to that??????

My College Years

One day while Lauren was in the shower she asked me how many hours are in a day. I told her my usual response, that there were 24 hours. She paused for a minute and said, "so that makes 36 hours in a full day? "

I went on to further explain that of that 24 hours there were 12 hours of daytime and 12 hours of nighttime making up an entire "24 hour period or day".

She looked at me and said, "all this time I thought there were 24 hours in a day and 12 hours in a night making a total of 36 hours."

She went on to say, "I am so glad you are telling me this now instead of me learning this in my college years. That would have been really embarrassing!"

All I Want For My Birthday

Today is one week away from my daughter's 8th birthday. Naturally, I asked her what she would like for her birthday. The conversation went a little something like this:

Me (Mom): "So, Lauren, what DO you want for your birthday?"

Lauren: "Mom, all I want for my birthday is to adopt a baby from Haiti."

Me (Mom): Trying to avoid getting into yet another wreck, I respond, "Well, that takes into account a lot of different variables. I am just not so sure that is really what I feel called to do right now."

Lauren: "What? You don't want to help out the people in Haiti?"

Me (Mom): "I do, but I really can barely handle the three kids I have right now."

Lauren: "I think they are just giving the babies away for free. Just look it up on Haiti.com!"

Me (Mom): "Your father and I are going to have to talk about it. A lot of things are involved when adopting a child."

Lauren: "I am sure Mr. Barton (a friend of ours who is serving as medical help right now in Haiti) could just bring us back a baby. That is really all I want in the entire world"

Me (Mom): Thinking to myself and outloud to my children...."when the adoption agencies come interview our family they will see amongst the screaming, whining, and complaining that we are probably not yet suited right now to adopt."
